Swedish Public says no to Lundin and yes to the industry

Swedish Public rejects the so-called Lundin Committee's proposals for re-regulation of public transport, rather favors the business model as an expert in the industry have jointly developed.

The handsome investigator Ulf Lundin's proposal for a new Public Transport focuses too exclusively on the organizational issues. Passenger needs not prioritized sufficiently says trade association Swedish Public Transport Association. A united board is behind a new proposal to the business model presented in the professional association responses.

- The Swedish Public Transport is basically a positive attitude towards increased market access. But our proposal, unlike the investigator, based on the traveler's need for a coordinated and easy public transport system, says Christer G Wennerholm (m), chairman of the Swedish Public Transport Association.

The main difference between the two proposals is market access. The Swedish Public Traffic's proposal, the operator must assume full responsibility for both community acquired and commercial traffic. Only after the transport contracted in a region different elements should be in step two, to allow free market access for other operators.

The investigator Ulf Lundin suggests however that the market already in stage one will be open for operators to engage in purely commercial operations, without responsibility for the whole.

- We believe that Lundin's proposal is too great a risk for "raisin picking" which in turn may cause the public transport system is broken, says Charlotte Wäreborn Schultz, CEO of Swedish Public Transport Association. Our proposal for a new business model is developed based on travelers' needs for coordination and long-term and leads to our goal of doubling public transport market share.

- It may be appropriate to now, under current law to examine how the free market access in stage two works in practical application, says Christer G Wennerholm. The Swedish Public Transport will therefore initiated a pilot in any part of the country where there is an interest from interested buyers and operators through increased competition, giving passengers a greater choice.
